Show and Tell: New Purse

For Mel's Show and Tell this week I'm showing off my new "purse."

You may remember, my purse was stolen not that long ago. Since then, I've been carrying the necessities in an old school bag, with important essentials shoved into the back of the checkbook. Last weekend, Mike and I finally went shopping with the goal of securing a new purse.

After shopping for nearly two hours, we found the purse I wanted. Then I looked at the price tag and realized that didn't even include the wallet. Mike told me to go ahead and get it, but logic kicked in and I realized how ridiculous it is to spend that much on a purse. I loved my old Burberry purse, but it didn't cost nearly as much, was a birthday gift, and I found the wallet to match for a good price on eBay a few years later. I thought I would have that purse forever -- and then it was stolen. :( I'm still bitter and sad.

Instead, I decided to go back to my old "no purse carrying" ways. I have the diaper bag and 9 times out of 10, I'm with Bo when I leave the house. Instead of a fancy Burberry purse, I bought this simple black wristlet to carry my phone, credit card, id, and cash. I can throw it in the diaper bag or it is easy to carry on its own for those rare times when I'm Bo-less.

I'm not a huge fan of Coach but it was the only thing that seemed sensible and was in a halfway normal price range. Is it just me, or has this designer handbag trend gotten a little out of control? I love the look of Burberry but dropping $800 for a bag and wallet seems a bit excessive.

What type of a purse do you have? How much did you pay for it? Was it worth it?

By purse I assume you mean handbag? I get a new one this Friday for my birthday!!! I have had it for a while now, but it is still in it's pink bag and I am being very patient so far!! It wasn't too bad as it was £100 instead of £175 and Mum and I have gone halves on it as a present for me. If it was any more expensive I wouldn't want to use it as I'd be too frightened of getting it dirty or spoilt!

Aren't a purse and a handbag the same thing? Does someone want to explain the difference to me if there is one? Is purse a Southern Illinois word?? :)

I have never been a purse or a handbag person, hence I lose alot of really important things!!

However...I have to say your first choice was really pretty and your hubby?? Well - what can you say? He is a dream, "Go ahead and get it". Ahhh-

Total outrageous costs for designer handbags!! I think that's why I love outlet shopping so much. Who cares if it's last seasons' purse?! It's still funky and it's more than half the original price! :-P

Anyway, I recently started carrying a wristlet for the essentials, too. And I love the fact that it can just hang off your wrist rather than throwing a huge heavy bag over the shoulder!

That's an elegant purse there, lady! Good taste shows!

I recently got a pink jute handbag for myself. It is huge and in this festival season, I was looking for something which could take a lot of dumps!

That is a beautiful wristlet and so practical with the diaper bag. I'm so sorry about your purse getting stolen, ugh.

I love backpack purses and am on my third one from www.wabags.com
They last forever, look good, and hold alot of stuff. (not a paid endorsement, tee hee, just like their stuff.)
Best to you and your family. Here from Show and Tell.

Oh, I forgot, the Wabags cost about $80 dollars, so pretty guilt free. Not $800, holy cow!

Here from Show and Tell. Sad about your purse being stolen! That is awful. I have a Coach and love it. I like your wristlet!

Love the wristlet! I have little tolerance for shopping for handbags, etc. So I get mine at, um, Target. I think I spent $15 dollars on my last one. I work in a laboratory, so no one sees my purse anyway. It just gets locked in a drawer. :) Here from Show and Tell.

I'm not much of a purse person, so when I discovered wristlets, I was over the moon. I bought my handmade little gem from an Etsy seller for $15, and it's awesome. There's just enough room for my checks, wallet, phone, comb and a pen. Being smaller, it also helps me keep it clean. Which is good because I have a tendancy to pack rat.

I'm so sorry you lost your purse...you're blog is the only thing that keeps me going...I am infertile. I can only hope to be as strong as you have been, do you think you will have another child (gob bless)?

i lean towards vera bradley. i have the "on the go" style and i just love the cotton patterns this fall. i won't tell how much i paid for my purse because i buy on ebay. if you're a good ebayer, you can get a brand new one for cheaper than the retail stores. ;)
