And the Doctor said...

Today, I made the trip to Champaign to visit my OB. Mike and Mary Lou (former bosses - now friends) drove me and went shopping while I spent my lovely three hours at the appointment. My cousin's girlfriend, Becky, watched Bo. One of my mom's friends, Cynthia, took her to her follow-up eye appointment. We all survived the day (and our doctor's appointments), with lots of help from friends.

At my OB appointment, everything looked the same as it did on Thursday. I am still contracting, even with the medication, but I am only a fingertip dilated and my cervix has not changed since Thursday. Dr. F sent me home with the same advice -- rest as much as I can given our current circumstances and push fluids. I go back to the OB next Thursday and that appointment will be even longer -- glucose testing, a RhoGham shot, a full ultrasound with both a cervix check and full scans of the babies, a fetal fibronection swab (which she wanted to do today but I'd already had my vaginal ultrasound... ), and more monitoring. I am to call immediately if anything changes or if I feel anything abnormal.

Mom's appointment also went well. The right eye now has vision of 40/20, but her other eye still has very poor vision, making depth-perception difficult. The hope is she will be able to adjust over the next few days. She goes back to the eye doctor on Tuesday afternoon and will hopefully receive the go ahead to schedule the next surgery and pick up Bo. Bo is not a fan of the fact that Grammie can't pick him up - AT ALL! Overall, she is doing well, and that is definitely a good thing!

Bo spent the entire day with Becky and it sounds like he was full of energy. They played outside, spent time in the swing, ate all kinds of good things, visited Grammie, etc. Bo decided to spend some time in his wading pool -- both fully clothed with tennis shoes on and later in his swim trucks. He got so dirty that Becky felt she had to give him a bath. :) It sounds like she held up pretty well to a fairly typical day with the Bobo (minus the fact he didn't want to take a good nap! :()

It was a long day for me, as I left about 8:30 and arrived home around 5. The conversation on the drive to and from Champaign was lively with pageant discussion and political debate, which is always entertaining. :)

I put Bo to bed early and managed to accomplish several "must-do" chores. That said, the state of my house still makes me want to cry. I'm going to try to do things in small bursts and rest in between -- with Bo's "help" of course -- tomorrow. I am going to try to rest as much as possible -- but as I said in my other post -- there are lots of things that just don't happen on there own!

After I hit publish, I'll be working on grading papers for the job where I actually receive an income. Good times, good times. :)

Bobo pictures for Wordless Wednesday tomorrow -- and hopefully less talk of doctors here at Chez Sticky Feet -- for a few days at least.

I'm glad things are at least stable but I really hope and pray this coming week will find a halt to the contractions and an improvement to cervix length.

Glad your mom's eye is doing well after surgery.

Great news. Get some rest, mama.

Glad to hear everything is OK and that you got lots of help. It sounds like it was quite the busy day!

Don't stress about the house. I know how you feel, but I know you would rather have a little bit of a messy house and healthy kids.

So glad that you made it through your appointment! (oh man you are bringing memories back of the mess in my house before my twins were born, 3 months of bed rest makes for a messy house! My husband was around but he was trying to get his car done before the kids came so he was in the garage for 3 months)

Anyway good luck!

I'm so glad things haven't changed with the babies. Of course it would have been great if everything would have stopped completely, but as long as things don't change that's great news.

I'm glad you were able to utilize your family and friends to help you out this week, and I'm sure they'll all be there any time you need.

Glad the appt. went well. May I suggest that you consider your house Chez Sticky Feet UP ON THE COUCH?

Please, please, please consider hiring a housekeeper. You must have friends who can recommend someone. I thought it would be weird to have a stranger in my house messing with my stuff, but it took only one day to get used to it.

I know how challenging it is for someone to tell you to "rest", especially when you feel like there is so much to take care of and do. But take it from someone who has been there and listen to the doctors. Those little girls are counting on you to make it as long as you can with them inside your belly. I remember the nurses and doctors telling me while I was in the hospital that I was the best incubator my babies would have - much better than the NICU incubators.

Hang in there - and don't be afraid to ask for help! That was one of the hardest lessons for me to learn! But I found that people LOVE to feel needed so I learned that it was OK to let people help me.

I'll be thinking of you as you finish out this pregnancy. Just think 2 beautiful baby girls will be waiting for you at the end of this journey!
